Bonsai Services

My services are the following :

Deciduous trees

1.Pruning the foliage to the silhouette of the bonsai.

2. Repotting

3. Wiring as appropriate to correct the foliage levels.

4. Fertilization schedule

The pruning of the foliage occurs when the first growth has hardened and is, usually around the end of May at the beginning of June. After that the tree will make a 2nd growth and it can then also be pruned when it has hardened.

Repotting occurs in the beginning of spring (March) before the buds begin to swell.

The wiring also happens in the spring just before the buds start to swell or in the fall when the leaves start to discolor.

The fertilization schedule is set per individual tree according to the state of the bonsai.

4.Fertilization schedule

The time for picking or pruning the candles is different for each type of pine.

  • With multi-flush pines such as the Black Pine this happens depending on the size of the bonsai and the time remaining until hibernation to develop new candles. Large trees are pruned faster than the small shohin bonsai. This usually happens in June for the larger trees. This is only possible if there are smaller candles in the vicinity to put the energy in those small candles or buttons.
  • With single-flush short-needle pines such as the Mugo, Sylvestris, we will pick the candles as they begin to grow out of the silhouette of the foliage floors. They are then picked back to the desired length. This is only possible if there are smaller candles in the vicinity to put the energy in those small candles or buttons.
  • With single-flush long needle pines such as the Japanese white pine we will prune the candles when they are hardened and the sheets that held the needles come off. This is because otherwise all the remaining energy goes to the rest of the needles and therefore they become longer.

Repotting is done at the end of February, at the beginning of March. You can repot pines a little faster than deciduous trees, but you have to protect them against the freezing cold and the wind. A cold conservatory or a heat mat is definitely needed.

Wiring is best done in the spring before the candles grow or after the needles have hardened. It is not advisable to wire during the winter months because the remaining cracks are difficult to heal and the tree is difficult to recover, making it easier for branches to die.

4.Fertilization schedule

The pruning of the outliers ensures that the branch of the juniperus will improve. This happens when they have reached a certain length so that they no longer weaken the tree when we prune it. (Juli-August)

The power of a Juniperus is in the foliage and not in the roots like a pine.

Repotting happens in early spring when the temperature is already slightly higher. This usually happens in March. The tree must be prepared for repotting, which means that there must be enough leaves to ensure that the tree will survive. After repotting, no stylization or pruning should be done!

Wiring is best in the early spring or the end of the summer. Certainly for heavy bends because the growth takes place during the late spring and summer and therefore a lot of water is transported so that the xylem and the cambium of the branches can easily separate from each other. When styling in the early fall you will need to protect the bonsai from freezing during the winter.
